CYCLEBLOG

Motivation and musings from the #cyclebar team.

IT’S JUST LIKE RIDING A BIKE

I remember getting my first real bike. I had outgrown my hand-me-down banana-seat bike, and was ready for hand brakes and gear changes. I picked out a shimmery, white Schwinn 12-speed, and could not wait to take it for a spin and feel the wind snapping through my ponytail.

RIDER SPOTLIGHT: Ellen Girodias

This month, we turn our rider spotlight to the stage. CycleStar® Instructor Ellen Girodias was diagnosed with Lymphoma when she was just a child. Now, as a cancer survivor, she uses her experience—and her platform as an instructor—to motivate and support other people going through their own struggles. Check out her amazing story. We dare you not to be inspired!

RIDE LIKE A PRO

When I think it, the ride highlighted what I love about CycleBar. You ride with others and feed of their energy, but it’s very much tailored to your own fitness level and capability. It’s probably one of the only places in the world where you can work out with professional athletes without having to worry about being able to keep up.

Prince-piration

“Is God putting a band together?” A friend posed this question on Facebook upon learning of Prince’s death a couple weeks ago. After losing the musical icon just a few months following David Bowie’s passing, I couldn’t help but wonder the same thing.

RIDER SPOTLIGHT: Katie Buteau

Did you know that stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States, yet most Americans cannot name a single symptom? May is National Stroke Awareness Month, and that means that it’s time to learn about the causes, symptoms, and signs of stroke. This month, we look to our Wellesley studio, where loyal rider and stroke survivor, Katie Buteau, tells her story.

HERE’S TO YOU

For Mother’s Day, I set out to write a piece about the benefits of indoor cycling for mothers. But when I really started thinking about it, the largest benefit for me, as a mother, is that it has nothing to do with being a mother at all.

I TOOK MY MOM TO CYCLEBAR AND LIVED TO TELL ABOUT IT

Throughout my life, my mom has always supported my athletic endeavors. She came to almost every single game, meet, tournament, and match that I competed in. (And even came to a few when I rode the bench in college.) She cheered me on from the sidelines when I ran my first marathon, and drags my kids to see me run races every single year. However, I cannot think of a single instance where I actively shared an athletic experience together with my mother.

IT’S TIME TO SHAPE UP

I am currently nursing a knee injury, which is frustrating on a multitude of levels. First and foremost, this injury means that I cannot participate in the spring half marathon I’ve been training for all winter. Second, this injury prevents me from exercising, and that makes me feel icky and out of shape.

It’s All About That Brass

Last month on the CycleBlog, I expounded on the joys of clapping in workout songs, so let’s examine another go-to element: horns. For real. Give me a solid horn arrangement, and I’m in musical heaven.
